- A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training, and/or experience.
Experience
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in operating and performing front line maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment such as motors, generators, power tools, and boats.
Experience in maintaining grounds and buildings.
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working in isolated or semi-isolated locations.
Experience working in a marine environment

Work Environment
Lightkeepers on British Columbia's West Coast work in 27 locations. Some of the light stations are very remote, and are served by Coast Guard helicopter and CCG vessels only.
For some stations, there is only one guaranteed reprovision per month. Lightkeepers must remain on the light station for the full period of employment, which can be up to one year with the exception of periods of vacation leave, or for medical emergencies. The majority of Lightstations are staffed with a Principal and an Assistant Lightkeeper at all times. Crown owned accommodations are provided.
Challenge
Lightkeepers provide weather reports and sea states for AES (Atmospheric Environment Service).
In addition, Lightkeepers maintain the lightstation assets by performing maintenance on buildings, equipment and grounds.
Additional Requirements / Comments
- Inventory Advertisement - An inventory advertisement allows a continuous intake of applications, over as long a period as desired. This inventory has no closing date, although one may be added in the future. Once a candidate has submitted their application it will stay active in the inventory (assuming it meets the essential screening criteria) for 365 days. At the end of that period, candidates will need to refresh their application to ensure it stays active in the inventory. 60 days prior to the end of the 365 day period, candidates will receive a notice to their PSRS profile instructing them that their application will expire unless it is refreshed. Candidates are also able to withdraw their application from the inventory anytime they desire.
- Candidates must meet the Essential Qualifications to be appointed to the position. Candidates may be expected to meet, in whole or in part, the criteria related to the Assets, Operational Requirements and Organizational Needs, depending on the position being staffed.
