Parks Canada is committed to a system of national heritage places that recognizes and honours the contributions of Indigenous peoples, their histories and cultures, as well as the integral relationships Indigenous peoples have with their traditional lands, waters and ice, many of which are found within the places administered by Parks Canada.

Strong relationships with Indigenous partners are essential to Parks Canada’s work and contribute to the process of reconciliation between Indigenous peoples, the Government of Canada, and other Canadians, based on the recognition of rights, respect, co-operation, and partnership. Working together with more than 300 First Nations, Inuit, and Métis groups across Canada, Parks Canada and Indigenous peoples are partners in conserving, restoring, and presenting Canada’s natural and cultural heritage.

Duties

The Indigenous Affairs Branch has three main teams: Policy and Reporting, Negotiations and Indigenous Relations. This involves working with Field Units who work directly with First Nation, Métis and Inuit and as well as National Indigenous Organizations in the development and implementation of various initiatives.
