On November 8th, 2021, the Parks Canada Agency announced the details of its vaccination requirement for all employees.
As per the Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for Parks Canada Agency, employees must attest to their vaccination status. Duties
Are you passionate about the outdoors? Do you want to make a difference in nation to nation reconciliation between the Government of Canada and the members of the Coalition of First Nations with Interest in Riding Mountain National Park?
The ideal person for this job brings writing, engagement and media relations skills as well as an attention to detail and understanding of government communication processes. You will also need to be creative and able to work as part of a team. You will plan and execute communications projects, public engagement and media strategies. You will work closely with other team members from many areas of Parks Canada, as well as with representatives of Indigenous and other community groups and the public.
In this role, you will:
• Plan, develop, and deliver field unit public relations and communications products, activities and services to engage the public, partners and stakeholders.
• Provide professional support in areas such as writing and editing; communications planning and strategy; media relations; social media and web content development; event planning and co-ordination; stakeholder relations and engagement; public outreach; and photography.

Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada's natural and cultural resources. We are responsible for a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.
Riding Mountain National Park is in Treaty 2 Territory, homeland of the Anishinabe. We work with the Coalition of First Nations with an Interest in Riding Mountain National Park to foster positive and collaborative relationships which protect and present the area’s natural and cultural heritage for all Canadians. Riding Mountain National Park is approximately 3.5 hours’ drive north west of Winnipeg. It protects 3,000 square kilometers of northern boreal forest, eastern deciduous forest, rough fescue grasslands, marsh, and river-bottom wetland areas. It is home to wolves, moose, elk, black bear, hundreds of bird species, countless insects and a captive bison herd. The park is surrounded by lands currently used for agriculture.
The job is based in Wasagaming, Manitoba, in Riding Mountain National Park.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized college or university with specialization in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism or other discipline relevant to the position or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE:
• EX1:Experience providing strategic and operational communications and media relations advice to management;
• EX2:Experience researching, analyzing, developing and delivering communications and media relations strategies and plans;
• EX3:Experience dealing with media in Canada;
• EX4: Experience in writing and editing communications products.

KEX1: Knowledge of the news media in Canada;
KEX2: Knowledge of a broad spectrum of communication media tools and techniques including planning and delivery;
KEX3: Knowledge of the federal legislation, policies and guidelines governing communications.
ABILITIES:
AEX1: Ability to communicate effectively orally, in writing and with images or video;
AEX2: Ability to analyze documents/reports, assess the communications implications and make recommendations;
AEX3: Ability to manage conflicting priorities, to multi-task and to work under time-sensitive conditions;
AEX4: Ability to draft communications materials and co-ordinate approvals;
AEX5: Ability to plan and organize the logistics associated with special events, such as news conferences, press briefings, stakeholder meetings, Ministerial and/or other VIP events;
AEX6: Ability to deliver products, services and advice in communications, particularly as it relates to media relations, high-visibility issues and web-based communications;
AEX7: Ability to synthesize a lot of complex, specialized information into clear easy to understand language with strong writing skills and attention to detail.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
These positions requires the incumbents to:
• Sit or stand during extended periods (75-85% of the day);
• Be exposed to variable weather conditions when moving between facilities and working outdoors;
• Be exposed to stress when responding to fluctuating, unpredictable client demands and requirements;
• Wear a Parks Canada uniform and abide uniform policy;
• Occasionally work shift work, and/or evenings, and/or weekends and/or statutory holidays and/or provincial/territorial holidays.
Conditions of employment
Reliability Status security clearance - Obtain and maintain a Reliability status security clearance.
Some positions require possession of a valid Class 5 driver's license - Hold a minimum Class 5I driver's license (intermediate level)
