With over 61,500 military spouses located across the country and with military families relocating three times more than the average Canadian, DND aims to help reduce the stressors associated with such frequent relocation. One stressor that spouses often face is the acquisition or continuity of meaningful employment when arriving at a new base or wing. The aim of this Military Spouse Casual Inventory is to support spouses and common-law partners seeking to maintain their skills and pursue or continue their careers. Covering a broad range of work streams, this new inventory will not only bridge the link between skilled and experienced military spouses and hiring managers, but will also offer flexible and meaningful employment opportunities to spouses who find themselves at new bases and wings across Canada.
Applying to this inventory is a way to connect with hiring managers who are looking for qualified individuals to temporarily join their team in a casual capacity.
1. Click “Apply”
2. Complete the application
Once a hiring manager has identified the need for a casual, a search will be conducted. Applicant searches may be conducted by random selection, relevant experience, work location or linguistic requirement of the work to be performed. Application(s) that meet the hiring organization's requirements will be provided to the hiring manager who in-turn will contact the applicant(s) to discuss the opportunity.
Intent of the process
The intent of this inventory is to fill temporary employment needs of 90 working days or less within a calendar year, within National Defence. This inventory may also be used by other Federal Government of Canada departments.
Casual employment offers you opportunity to:
• experience Government of Canada departments as an employer;
• build your reputation as a high performer;
• make professional connections with colleagues and leaders;
• access professional networks that can help build your career; and
• gain awareness of and access to longer-term and permanent employment opportunities (e.g. term, indeterminate)
