Parks Canada’s Protected Areas Establishment and Conservation Directorate is looking for impact assessment specialists. Do you excel at providing advice in complex situations? Are you passionate about finding ways to implement projects while minimizing their impacts? As an impact assessment specialist, you may support the delivery of projects by Parks Canada in ways that mitigate impacts and comply with policy and legislation. You will provide expert advice to a variety of Parks Canada team members, including senior managers, on complex and challenging projects, that may be inside and outside of our protected heritage places. You will also work with external stakeholders to bring understanding of Parks Canada’s interests and impact assessment processes.

EDUCATION

Graduation from a recognized university with a Bachelor’s degree in ecological science, resource management, or other environmental science relevant to the position.
Graduation from a recognized university with a master's degree in impact assessment is also acceptable.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

EXP1: Significant* experience in impact/environmental assessment.
EXP2: Experience working on sensitive and complex impact assessments.
EXP3: Experience in providing scientific advice and strategic direction to management, regarding environmental assessment issues.


* Significant is defined as experience acquired during 4 or more years of experience where impact assessment was the significant portion of duties

AB2: Ability to effectively communicate technical subjects orally to a variety of audiences;

AEXP2: Experience working on major resource projects environmental assessments;
AEXP3: Experience with Parks Canada’s impact assessment regime;
AEXP4: Experience working with aquatic or marine environments;
AEXP5: Experience with northern impact assessment legislations;
AEXP6: Experience analyzing cumulative effects
AEXP7: Ability to review and develop policy;
AEXP8: Ability to deliver impact assessment training programs.
