Education
Graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized university in a field of the natural sciences with acceptable specialization in forestry, forest ecology, forest ecosystem modelling, or the Employer approved alternative. (The Employer approved alternative is an acceptable master's or bachelor's degree in forestry, coupled with acceptable research, training and experience which clearly demonstrate the ability to conduct personal research of doctoral degree calibre).
Productivity / Recognition refers to recognized achievement in the form of authorship and editorship of published or unpublished reports, books, papers, or other communications resulting from:
Research, experimental development, or tasking associated with operational equipment and problems.
Operational research and scientific analysis.
Planning, analysis and evaluation of Canadian and foreign programs in research and development.
Experience
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Recent experience in the modelling of carbon dynamics in terrestrial ecosystems.
Experience in the preparation of scientific publications in peer reviewed journals, and the presentation of scientific findings to a variety of audiences.
Experience in the supervision of professional staff.
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in application of process based forest ecosystem models driven by climate data and information obtained from remote sensing.
Experience in the analysis of climate impacts on growth and mortality rates in forest ecosystems.
Experience in the development, parameterization, testing and application of computer simulation models.

Challenge
In consultation with the Senior Research Scientist, conduct and direct research activities aimed at improving the understanding, quantification and simulation of forest carbon dynamics at the stand and landscape level, as affected by global change factors.
This position will complement and expand skills and abilities of the CFC Carbon Accounting Team through research that will contribute to the development of improved process representation of global change impacts on carbon and non-CO2 greenhouse gas emissions and removals in boreal and temperate forest ecosystems.
The successful candidate will become a member of a multi-disciplinary research team and work closely with experts in CFS, other federal departments, academia, and provincial and territorial resource management agencies. The candidate will work closely with members of the remote sensing community to advance linkages between remotely sensed information and terrestrial ecosystem models.
The successful candidate will contribute to providing analytical support and advice to meet the needs of Government of Canada senior policy makers.
The successful candidate will author, co-author and publish papers and reports documenting and interpreting results of research, and present and discuss these results with scientific and policy audiences.
